Experience that holds up in the field.
AviateNM works with airports and aviation organizations to identify operational problems, test assumptions, strengthen systems, and build practical paths forward.
The objective is not simply to produce a report. It is to understand what is happening, why it is happening, and what should happen next.
Proof matters more than promises.
Airport consulting is ultimately judged by whether the work helps leadership understand the operating environment and make better decisions.
The engagements presented here illustrate the kinds of problems AviateNM has been asked to investigate and the reasoning used to move from observed condition to practical solution.
AviateNM looks for the operating condition, assumption, process, or configuration that allowed the problem to exist in the first place.
Restoring a Visual Approach Aid — and correcting the condition driving its failures.
Aztec Municipal Airport • Aztec, New Mexico
A degraded visual approach aid appeared to be a straightforward maintenance problem.
Aztec Municipal Airport was experiencing degraded performance from the Pulsating Light Approach Slope Indicator serving Runway 26.
Several lamps within the legacy system had failed, significantly reducing the effectiveness of the visual vertical guidance available to approaching pilots.
Restore the visual output.
AviateNM inspected the existing Dvor Aviation Corporation DA1001-1 PLASI system and its lamp assemblies.
Multiple Sylvania BVA 900W/120V tungsten-halogen projector lamps had failed. Compatible replacement lamps were installed, and the system was operated and visually assessed following replacement.
The red-and-white visual approach indication was restored.
The maintenance problem was being driven by the operating configuration.
Further investigation of the PLASI controls identified an important condition: the system had been configured for continuous operation rather than remote operation.
The airport already had pilot-controlled lighting infrastructure capable of allowing pilots to activate airport lighting over the airport CTAF.
Continuous operation dramatically changed the lifecycle of the lamps.
The PLASI lamps were rated for approximately 75 operating hours. When operated continuously, the rated lamp life could be consumed whether an aircraft was using the runway or not.
The assignment evolved from replacing lamps to correcting how the system was being used.
AviateNM reviewed the existing control arrangement, the PLASI's remote operating capability, and the airport's pilot-controlled lighting infrastructure. The investigation identified a path to operate the system through its remote configuration so that visual guidance could be activated when needed rather than operating continuously.

The City received more than a repair.
The engagement explained why the condition occurred, what operating practice contributed to it, how recurrence could be reduced, and what longer-term modernization should eventually address.
Small maintenance problems can reveal larger operational problems.
Small municipal airports frequently operate legacy infrastructure long after the institutional knowledge surrounding that infrastructure has disappeared.
Equipment may still function. Switches may still move. Lights may still illuminate. But eventually the airport loses the answer to the question:
The engagement in one operating picture.
We don't stop at what failed.
Effective airport consulting means determining why the condition exists, which assumptions are driving it, what can be corrected now, and what should happen next.
What people say about working with AviateNM matters too.
As additional client and partner perspectives are authorized for public use, they will be added here alongside the work they describe.
Different airports. Different problems. The same discipline.
Additional representative engagements will be added as projects are completed and appropriate details are available for public presentation.
Have a problem that looks familiar?
Start with the condition you are seeing. AviateNM can help determine whether the visible problem is the whole problem—or simply where the underlying issue first became noticeable.
